I am interested in the ecology of shorebirds. My thesis will investigate the community structure and resource partitioning among Nearctic and Neotropical shorebirds, using stable isotope analysis. It will also generate population estimates for these species in the Southeastern region of South America.

Silvia Bainy Gastal

I am a Ph.D. student and my research interests are the diversity of nasal mites in different seabirds and shorebirds species, and their relationship with the distribution and morphology of hosts. I am a biologist (2011), and a specialist in Conservation Biology (2013) by the ‘UniversidadeCatólica de Pelotas’ (UCPel). MSc. in Parasitology by the ‘Universidade Federal dePelotas’ – UFPel). I also worked for 11 years with the rehabilitation of marine animals and oil-affected fauna at the ‘Centro de Recuperação de AnimaisMarinhos’ – CRAM-FURG.
